Yacht Book Sculpture by wetcanvas Yacht Book Sculpture by wetcanvas
Commissioned piece. I was contacted about doing a sculpture of a yacht. I'm thinking, "cool, power boat, never done one of those before" and asked for a picture of the specific yacht they'd like done. Well, I received a photo of a MASSIVE ship back. Not exactly what I was thinking, but it was a beautiful ship. I got as close as I could. I'm rarely around boats, especially those of this size so I'm not clear on all of the rigging. The ship is made from the paper of the book excluding the ropes holding the front sails. I had to use a thin wire for those in order to keep the tension.

Please do not use photograph without my permission.

By the number of sails, I'm assuming it was a windjammer. Large cargo ships. I wouldn't worry too much about the rigging, because to do it properly would have added a fair amount of time to this work.

On another note- I'm not sure yacht is the right term to use here. It's modern usage generally denotes recreational use- and most modern sailing vessels are fore-and-aft rigged, as opposed to square.

Anyways, awesome piece.

Whoa, that's fantastic! I love the detail and care you obviously put into those sails.
