This is a 11x14 collage on canvas. The book pages in the background are from "The Stranger" by Albert Camus. In my opinion, it's a horrible book, but it fit with the theme (and I didn't really care about ripping it up). The crow, butterfly and border were all painted separately with gouache and acrylics, transferred onto the canvas and sealed on.
We've had a lot loved ones die this week. This piece was my way of grieving.
This has to be the most beautiful depiction of that song. The song is also a main inspiration for a book I'm attempting to write. Again I keep looking through your gallery and loing every pice I find.
Why, thank you! I'm glad you like it. This one was not fun making, I didn't think about how my mediums would work together. Gouache and sealer was not a good combination! Are you posting your book on DA? I'd like to follow it if you are.
You're welcome! ^_^ I use gouache a lot, but I know next to nothing about sealer. I'm guessing the sealer didn't react to the gouache well? (it looks fine in the picture ) I'm not sure yet, I guess I'm far away dreaming that one day it might get published. I'm not sure if you're allowed to post things on the internet if they might get formally published. If you'd like I could post the chapters just to you in a PM or somthing. As of yet it's still in the early stages and I only have the oppinons of a few close friends.
Because it's always so water soluble, when you paint a liquid sealer on the qouache it acts just like you were putting water to it and runs. A spray sealer may work better, but I wasn't that smart. I think you're allowed to post things that may get published. I think there's a few people on here that have posted things that have been published. There's one story I keep up on that the author is trying to get it published too. But, if you want to send them I'd love to read them.
Ah I see your problem now. I'll keep that in mind if I ever think of doing somthing similar. Thanks for the info. I think I might still keep it under wraps, so to speek. Okay I hope you like it, and feel free to point out any mistakes and such. I'm trying to fine tune it as I go, thanks. ^_^
this is a really interesting piece. i didn't like the book either. i love how crisp you got the images of the crow and butterfly, and the spot colouring of red is very effective. I'm sorry to hear about your loved ones.
