Description
Commission drawing of Fredrick Remington referencing a cowboy for one of his bronze sculptures. I apologize for the blurriness. This thing is huge and getting a decent photo was rough.
Pretty much a mash up of a lot of different works by Remington, with the artist thrown in. The background is taken from "The Scout" and extended a bit. The horseman coming down the ridge is from the bronze "The Mountain Man". I threw in Remington's artist kit also. Apparently the cowboys thought he was "fancy" because his kit was lined in red velvet. I'm sure that didn't help his reputation as a city boy. The biggest issues with this were giving the desert feeling, without it being too barren, and fitting in the mountain man close enough that you could see what it was but still keeping perspective. I'm not sure if I pulled it off.
Either way, I was really excited to do this. It was great to draw again. To make it even better, this is a father's day gift commissioned for one of my favorite people in the whole wide world. If you remember, I did a mural in the dining room of a friend's parent's. The husband kept stealing me to show me his Remington's and talk about art. He has probably some type, if not an original, of everything Remington did, but nothing of Remington himself, so his son decided to get this made for him.
