So I just found out about your art and I love it!! <3 I have a few questions though, first how does it feel to cut up the books you like? I mean personally once I get a book I treat it like a sacred artifact, it's unthinkable for me to even fold the pages Secondly, what do you do after they are done, considering you can't close the book. I mean where do you get the space to keep them all?
Thank you. It doesn't feel great, I mean I don't take joy in cutting up a book. That being said I don't really think of it as cutting up a book. I think of it as bringing the story out into a visual representation instead of a verbal one. Most of the books I use, besides those I need to buy for commissions, are books that are being tossed out by their owners. So either I use them or the end up in the dump. I can agree with you though, there are some books, or at least particular copies of books, that I won't touch. First editions or simply too old. Most of my sculptures I sell. I have special shelving to store them until they need to be packed if they're sold online, and I also work with some brick and mortar store and some galleries. I probably only have 15-20 finished books on hand at any given time so while they do take up a lot of room they haven't taken over the WHOLE house yet.
