Two sailboats cruise on calm waves. An island with palm trees sits on the opposite page. Are they coming or going? Aloha means both hello and goodbye, you know. A parrot patiently watches to find out.

The book altered in this piece is "Aloha Means Goodbye" by Naomi A. Hintze, published in 1972.

This piece was featured in the juried fine craft show, Crafted, at Studio B in Boyertown, PA.

One question ,Do you only use old printed books because of the yellowish tint their pages had ?

Thank you! I have used newer books, and on some occasions their easier to work with. If you're doing very detailed work, or your cuts need to be precise, new books are better because their pages are less brittle. The old books just have something to them - I can't really explain it. It's like they have a history to them and I WANT to make something out of that.

I don't know why but I always feel pity for old books to be rendered .I think of them as antiques .
