Don Quixote by wetcanvas
Don Quixote
So, I originally used the body of this windmill for a poem called "Ode to the West Wind".  On it's way home from a show it was damaged, and the book was irreparable.  I was heartbroken, because I spent SO MUCH TIME on it.  Math is not my strong point, so the angles were a nightmare, and, I had to teach myself to build an engine.  Inside the windmill, there's a motor and gears and all sorts of spinny things to make the blades move.  If I could figure out how to upload a video of it moving, I would.
Anyway, I client asked me to sculpt Don Q for him, and (yay!) I finally found a use for the windmill. It's insides still worked perfectly, so it got a new body and was ready to go.  The client really liked Picasso's Don Quixote, so I tried for a slightly more realistic version of that.
Anatomical Heart by wetcanvas
Anatomical Heart
Commissioned piece made from a 1920's anatomy/health textbook.  Just skimming these pages while
I was working - it's amazing the human race is still going...
Fairy Garden Book Sculpture by wetcanvas
Fairy Garden Book Sculpture
A piece for the Everhart Museum (Scranton, PA) which is currently holding a fairy tale exhibit.  If you live in the area, I highly suggest checking it out.  It sounds like they're holding an amazing show, and I may make the three hour hike myself.
This piece is made from a collection of fairy tales, but doesn't depict a specific story.  Each of the lightening bugs is an LED which can be switched on and off.
So... it's been about a year and a half since I've posted anything on DA.  I apologize. And to those of you who have tried to contact me with no response, I'm especially sorry.  Without getting into too many details, there's been some family issues and a move to a new state, new jobs, new school for my kiddo... just a whole lot of adjustments.
Through it all there's still been art.  Probably the only thing that kept me halfway sane.  I'll be posting a lot of new work.
Thank you all for sticking with me.  I appreciate it.

Hi Jodi, Thanks for the watch! And thanks for collecting Peter and the Starcatcher. Have you ever done a book sculpture for Peter Pan? I suspect so...

Of course!  I LOVE your work.  I'm a dance teacher, so your set creations are particularly interesting to me!
I have done Peter Pan.  JM Barrie is one of my favorites.
