The Beatles
Commissioned piece.  The client asked for "Hey Jude" and Abbey Road, along with custom colors.  Yes, I know Lennon didn't have an orange scarf on, but that was the only way I could incorporate all of the colors!
On a side note, this one sparked an hour long discussion about The Beatles with my seven year old.  Most of it devoted to "Yes, that WAS what rock and roll sounded like back then" and "Yes, those haircuts were actually cool". He still doesn't believe me.
American Cinematography Book Sculpture
Commissioned piece for someone in the film industry.  The floor lamp (I know that's not the technical term, but I'm not a movie person, so...) is wired with a LED with an on/off switch hidden in the spine.
This sculpture was fairly small, only about 10" wide and 8" tall.  It was fun to work on, but the small parts were a pain :/ Overall, I'm happy with the end result.
Don Quixote
So, I originally used the body of this windmill for a poem called "Ode to the West Wind".  On it's way home from a show it was damaged, and the book was irreparable.  I was heartbroken, because I spent SO MUCH TIME on it.  Math is not my strong point, so the angles were a nightmare, and, I had to teach myself to build an engine.  Inside the windmill, there's a motor and gears and all sorts of spinny things to make the blades move.  If I could figure out how to upload a video of it moving, I would.
Anyway, I client asked me to sculpt Don Q for him, and (yay!) I finally found a use for the windmill. It's insides still worked perfectly, so it got a new body and was ready to go.  The client really liked Picasso's Don Quixote, so I tried for a slightly more realistic version of that.
Anatomical Heart
Commissioned piece made from a 1920's anatomy/health textbook.  Just skimming these pages while
I was working - it's amazing the human race is still going...
So... it's been about a year and a half since I've posted anything on DA.  I apologize. And to those of you who have tried to contact me with no response, I'm especially sorry.  Without getting into too many details, there's been some family issues and a move to a new state, new jobs, new school for my kiddo... just a whole lot of adjustments.
Through it all there's still been art.  Probably the only thing that kept me halfway sane.  I'll be posting a lot of new work.
Thank you all for sticking with me.  I appreciate it.

In the meantime, please keep up the good work. You have done some really amazing book sculptures and it's time DA knows more about this form of art!

Happy holidays!

Hi Jodi, Thanks for the watch! And thanks for collecting Peter and the Starcatcher. Have you ever done a book sculpture for Peter Pan? I suspect so...

Of course!  I LOVE your work.  I'm a dance teacher, so your set creations are particularly interesting to me!
I have done Peter Pan.  JM Barrie is one of my favorites.
